Lake Tambing Tourism Site Remains Closed For Visitors

Palu, Central Sulawesi, June  (antarasulteng.com) - The Lake Tambing ecotourism destination in the Lore Lindu National Park (LLNP), Central Sulawesi Province, remains temporarily closed for visitors after a 6.6-magnitude earthquake hit Poso District on May 29, 2017.

"To date, domestic and foreign tourists are still temporarily banned from visiting the Lake Tambing ecotourism destination until the damaged facilities and infrastructure are repaired," LLNP Head Sudayatna remarked here on Friday.

He said several facilities and infrastructure at the ecotourism site were severely damaged by the powerful earthquake and had to be repaired immediately.

Sudayatna confirmed that as a result of the earthquake, the water level of Lake Tambing rose to about 10 meters and was considered to pose a threat to visitors.

"Since several facilities and infrastructure at the Lake Tambing tourism area were damaged by the earthquake, hence for the comfort and safety of the visitors, they have been temporarily banned from visiting the area," he affirmed.

Although the number of domestic and foreign tourist arrivals at the lake in LLNP has steadily increased over the past several months, the area is now temporarily closed to visitors due to the earthquake that caused minor and severe damages to 87 houses and injured several people.

The scenic Lake Tambing is part of LLNP, which is surrounded by the districts of Donggala, Poso, and Sigi in Central Sulawesi.

Speaking in connection with the temporary closure of the Lake Tambing ecotourism destination, Sudayatna has extended his apologies to the visitors who are keen to visit the area.

"As the head of LLNP, I apologize and expect the visitors and tourists to postpone their visit to the Lake Tambing ecotourism area for a while until it is reopened to the public," Sudayatna noted.

However, the LLNP head could not ascertain when the Lake Tambing ecotourism area, located at an altitude of some 1.7 thousand meters above sea level, will be reopened to the public.

Sudayatna pointed to a steady increase in the number of tourists visiting Lake Tambing in the recent months.(skd)
