Ampana, C Sulawesi (Antaranews Sulteng) - Some 17 students pursuing environmental studies from the United States visited the Togean Islands National Park (TNKT) Office in Ampana, Tojo Unauna District, Central Sulawesi, on Saturday.

Head of the TNKT Office Bustang along with Head of Sub-Division of Administration, Youth Extension, Forest Police, and some staff of the TNKT Office greeted the students, who were accompanied by two lecturers.

Bustang noted that the visit was beneficial in sharing information on programs of the TNKT with foreign students.

He said TNKT was not only for tourism but this office was also used for conducting research and development activities to meet the scientific needs that were crucial for economic development of society.

"TNKT is home to endemic and endangered animal species, such as the hog deer, hornbill, tarsier, togean monkey, various types of corals, togean lizards, turtles, and crabs, which must be guarded and protected," he emphasized.

To visit TNKT, the visitors need to purchase a ticket in accordance with the mandate of Government Regulation No. 12 of 2014.

"This is an opportunity for the students concerned about conservation to pay for the admission in a bid to increase the treasury fund," he remarked.

Head of Administration of the TNKT office Oktavianus noted that the ticket fee for foreign visitors was Rp150 thousand, while their Indonesian counterparts had to pay Rp5 thousand.

"A group of at least 10 foreign students will be charged Rp100 thousand per person, and local students might pay Rp3 thousand," he added.

Oktavianus stated that students from the United States were enthusiastic and pleased on receiving information on conservation efforts in the TNKT. Before leaving the conservation area, they visited an island and took pictures together.
