Palu, C Sulawesi, (antarasulteng.com) - Two people are dead and two others missing after flash floods have hit four sub-districts in Tolitoli District, Central Sulawesi since Saturday.
"This is preliminary data that we have received from officers of the local disaster mitigation office (BPBD) who are currently in the flood-affected villages," Head of the Central Sulawesi BPBD Bartholemus Tandigala said here, Sunday.
The affected sub-districts are Baolan, Galang, Dako Pemean and Lamposio.
The dead victims are identified by their names as Salma (60) and Rahmi (62) from Pilado Tambun village.
The missing inhabitants are Mea (43) and Sastro (41), both are fishermen from Doyan village. Rescuers are still looking for them.
The flooding has affected a total of 56 thousand families. Evacuation efforts being carried out jointly by BPBD officers, search and rescue officers, as well as military and police personnel, have been hampered by downpour continuing to fall in Tolitoli.
Flood waters reaching a height of between one and four meters, damaged at least one bridge, cut off a number of roads and triggered landslides in several areas.
The flooding has also caused power outage in several villages in Tolitoli.
Meanwhile, a bridge collapsed and two others were seriously damaged after being hit by floods in Morowali District, Central Sulawesi Province, recently. (skd)
