Jakarta (ANTARA) - Eight Indonesian crew members of the Diamond Princess cruise liner, declared free of coronavirus after treatment in an isolation room at a Japanese hospital, will undergo a 14-day observation shortly upon arrival in Indonesia.

The crew members will be placed under observation at the Health Training Board Building of the Health Ministry in Karawang District, West Java, government spokesman for Covid-19 control Achmad Yurianto stated at the Presidential Office in Jakarta on Saturday.

Japanese health authorities treated the eight Indonesians in an isolation room at the Japanese hospital on March 1, 2020. The health condition of the eight Indonesians has since then improved. Some of them had reportedly recovered from coronavirus and allowed to return to Indonesia.

"One of them had arrived safely in Indonesia yesterday. Today, two of them are about to board an Indonesia-bound aircraft," he stated.

The remaining five Indonesians will likely return to Indonesia in two to three days, as their health condition is getting better, he revealed.

"We will again place them under observation for 14 days, but they will be separated from their friends (who had arrived in Indonesia earlier)," he stated.

As many as 78 Indonesians worked as crew members aboard the Diamond Princess. Of the total, 69 were evacuated to Indonesia aboard a commercial aircraft on March 1, 2020. One of the 69 Indonesians, tested positive for coronavirus, is currently undergoing treatment at the Persahabatan Hospital in Jakarta.

In the meantime, 68 other Indonesians are declared healthy and are being observed in Sebaru Island, off North Jakarta.
