Governor launches Central Celebes Marathon 2018

Palu, Central Sulawesi,  (Antaranews Sulteng) - Central Sulawesi Governor Longki Djanggola officially launched the Central Celebes International Marathon 2018 at the Palu Grand Mall here on Sunday.

On the occasion, the governor called on all relevant parties to work as closely as possible to ensure the success of the international event, organized by the Government of Central Sulawesi.

Djanggola emphasized that he did not want the polemics that broke out during the Palu International Marathon 2016 to recur in the Central Celebes Marathon this year.

He said the provincial capital of Palu was being perceived in a negative light by the Palu International Marathon 2016 participants owing to an issue in the distribution of prizes to the marathon champions at the time.

The Central Celebes Marathon will be held on Apr 13 to commemorate the 54th anniversary of Central Sulawesi Province.

The international event of the Central Celebes Marathon 2018 will be divided into four categories: 42 kilometers (km), 21 km, 10 km, and 5 km.

"Marathon runners from overseas will participate in the 42 km and 21 km categories, with a total prize of Rp456 million (to be won)," the governor explained.

The governor remarked that through the Central Celebes Marathon 2018, the local government will also promote the culinary arts along with nature and marine tourism of Central Sulawesi to participants and spectators coming from areas in Indonesia and abroad.

Governor Djanggola marked the launch of the Central Celebes Marathon 2018 by beating a "gimba" in the presence of Youth and Sports Ministry`s official Arifin Madjid, Provincial Legislative Assembly Chairman Aminuddin Ponulele, and Regional Secretary Hidayat Lamakarate.
