Jakarta (ANTARA) - Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan extended an invitation to the public to pay a visit to the Flora and Fauna (Flona) 2019 exhibition being organized at Banteng Square, Central Jakarta, from Sept 6 to Oct 6.

"First, this is an opportunity to have fun. Second, it is an opportunity to learn. As we are aware, it is important for Jakarta to become an environment-friendly city," Baswedan remarked while officiating the annual exhibition showcasing varied plant and animal species.

Taking into account that the capital city is known as one of the most polluted capital cities in the world, the Jakarta administration has encouraged the practice of tree planting among members of the public, as they absorb CO2 emissions. Vehicles and coal-fueled power plants surrounding the capital city, among other factors, contribute to air pollution.

The Jakarta Forestry Office has, since the past 34 years, held the exhibition yearly.

Five municipalities and a district within the Jakarta administration and 117 private plant and fauna vendors from Jakarta and West Java also partook in the expo.

The Jakarta Forestry office's stand offers free Snake plant, or Sansevieria, to visitors engaging in gardening-related consultations with officers at the stand.

The expo is open to the public from morning until evening.

The expo also offers Jakarta's culinary and environment-friendly products.
